The trip!

Preparing for a trip to Estonia was part of the adventure. Googling and searching places to stay, I found some great sites on the net. Trip Advisor is a great site for hotel listings and on ideas of areas that are a must see. When talking to people on travel forums, the best advice comes from a local. I met so many people on the Estonian blog forum and the information I received was great. It all depends who you talk to and what you ask. I wouldn't ask a 21 year old where the best BINGO place is, or ask a 90 year old where the best nightclub is. When you arrive in Tallinn airport sure you will see tours trying to sell you their packages, but keep your eyes and ears open as you might find that same tour 50% less or FREE!

Tallinn Life!

Tallinn has a surprisingly large number of restaurants, bars and clubs for tourists and locals alike. You'll be shocked to see that Tallinn has become a mecca of sorts for ethnic cuisines. Where else can you walk down the street and choose between restaurants serving Hungarian gulyás, Spanish paella, authentic Argentinean grilled meats, a hearty Wiener Schnitzel, Bavarian Weißworst, Estonian verivorst, Peking duck, and pizza? You can find sushi, haggis (!), curry, souvlaki, tacos, and just about anything else in this small cosmopolitan town. Estonia Industry

Estonia, the most northerly of the Baltic states, regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. It is a mainly flat country on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea, with many lakes and islands. Much of the land is farmed or forested.

The Estonian language is closely related to Finnish, but bears no resemblance to the languages of the other Baltic republics, Latvia and Lithuania, or to Russian. About one quarter of the population is of Russian-speaking origin.

The capital, Tallinn, is one of the best-preserved mediaeval cities in Europe, and tourism accounts for 15% of Estonian GDP. The economy is driven by engineering, food products, metals, chemicals and wood products.

Estonia vacation planning can be fun. I want to tell you a bit about Tallinn. Tallinn is a beautiful city, very old. There are a lot of hotels within walking distance from the old town. The medieval architecture with the huge wall fortress are now converted into restaurants, bars, shops, studios and markets. The well kept clean cobblestone streets are so beautiful. This truly is a hidden treasure.

Searching for Tallinn maps on the internet is simple, but what it you need a map when your in the city. The Estonian tour board will provide you with FREE Maps of all major cities, Tallinn, Tartu etc. These maps are also marked with famous places to stay, shop and eat. Save your money, don't buy a map, they are free!

Tallinn Accommodation

There are a lot of Tallinn accommodations for you to choose from. make sure you search and ask questions.

Certified accommodation in Tallinn is high quality, since the certification standards here are more stringent than the European average.

Advance booking directly from accommodation establishment or through a travel agency is essential from April to September, but it is also strongly recommended at any other time of year. The Tallinn Tourist Information Centres do not book accommodation.

Description of accommodation types:

Hotel - an establishment of at least 10 rooms that corresponds to high standards and offers dining service (restaurant).

Guesthouse - an establishment of at least 5 rooms, which offers dining service.

Hostel - a simple establishment for holiday, sport or study visitors, which offers dining or cooking facilities.

Guest apartment - an establishment with food-preparing facilities, which is rented out in entirety.

Bed & Breakfast - accommodation service at a private farm, house or apartment, which include breakfast.

Camping site - an establishment providing limited accommodation service, that has cottages and/or enclosed areas for tents and/or caravans, parking lot and cooking facilities.

Most hotels accept major credit cards. Rates are quoted per room, not per person, and as a rule prices include breakfast and tax.

Cheap flights to Tallinn

Finding cheap flights to Tallinn is not that difficult. There are tons of discount brokers competing for your business. The best thing is to shop around. I find the cheapest way to fly to Estonia is to book direct through the airline. Book your tickets online after 12:01 am to 1:59 am. this is when the airlines release their seat blocks to the tour operators. Click here to see what I use to save 60% and up on airfare.

Estonian Culture.

Estonian culture is one of the most unique cultures in Europe. The language is amazing and so are the people. I find the culture similar to Ukraine, Polish and Russian. Although the food is different in certain ways, they are prepared the same.

If you are going to Estonia, whether your going to a big city like Tallinn or a college town like Tartu, try to take everything in. it can be alot, but this country is so beautiful. Try to travel on festival days to Estonia. What a great way to see the countries cultures and people celebrating.

Night life in Tallinn is crazy, fun and you will never forget your experience. Stay safe like anywhere else, and you will be fine. Remember, Estonia is not a well promoted country, which is too bad, because there is so much to see and learn.

Cheap flights to Estonia

Finding cheap flights to Tallinn Estonia is a bit tough, but we have found a way. Flying to Europe is always a challenge, but if your know where and when to book, you can save a ton of money.

Traveling from Canada to Estonia is fun. More and likely you will have to fly to London for Munich to get to your final destination, but wait. We have found a flight on Finn Air from Toronto to Helsinki, then we took the ferry over. This was so amazing, beautiful and cheap. If you don't mind the ferry ride, you can save big off your airline ticket going this way.

This will also give you a chance to see the real Estonia and its people. One more thing. Finn Air has to be the best airline out there. Hotels Estonia, are amazing.

Hotels in Estonia are so amazing, clean and the staff are so friendly. I have stayed all over the world and find that the cities with the little hotels (not the chains) offer much better service. We stayed in this hotel in Tallinn and The staff there were great. It even beat an all inclusive I once stayed at in Mexico.

Don't be afraid of what the place looks like on the outside. The gem is really hidden inside.
